A silkscreen by Andy Warhol, "Marilyn Monroe 11.22 - This Is Not By Me" represents the American diva Marilyn Monroe, one of the artist’s favorite subjects transformed by Warhol into an icon of mass culture and American society. The actress, who died prematurely in 1962, was caught in the foreground, with her eyesight towards the viewer.
With the choice of a well-known subject to the general public, Andy Warhol kicks off a process of “democratization” of art. The aim of Pop Art lies precisely in giving life to an art accessible and understandable by all, which speaks of the reality and contemporary American society to the artist.
The work measures 91 x 91 cm and is signed in original by the artist.
